Card Purchase Terms
We buy cards from private individuals in two ways: card by card, through our buylist, and whole collections, agreed with us case by case. This page explains what we pay, how we assess, and — for collections sent by post — why posting them is final.
Last updated: 20 August 2026.
1. Who we are, and who this applies to
Misstep Lda, NIPC 519506383, registered at Rua 25 de Abril 15 2 Dto, 2510-705 Gaeiras, Portugal, buys Magic: The Gathering cards from private individuals.
These terms apply when you sell as a private individual — that is, not in the course of a professional activity. If you are a reseller, contact us first at support@misstepgames.com; different conditions apply.
You must be 18 or over to sell to us.
2. What we pay
Every purchase is assessed against the rates published on this page. We do not price by eye: the amount we pay you is a calculation you can do yourself.
- Individual cards worth 0.25€ or more: we pay 60% of the lowest price listed on Cardmarket.
- Take store credit instead of cash and we pay 25% more.
Below 0.25€, cards are bought by the hundred — counted, not listed one by one:
| Tier | Per 100 cards |
|---|---|
| Commons and uncommons | 0.30€ |
| Rares | 5.00€ |
| Mythics | 10.00€ |
| Foils (any rarity) | 2.00€ |
Condition
We quote everything as Near Mint. Where the condition is lower, we apply this table to the Near Mint value:
| Condition | % of the Near Mint offer |
|---|---|
| Excellent | 80% |
| Good | 65% |
| Lightly Played | 50% |
| Played | 35% |
| Poor | Returned |
3. Posting the cards is selling them
By sending us the cards, you are selling them. Cards sent to us are not returned. In exchange, we guarantee you a minimum amount before you send them, and the final amount will never be lower than that minimum.
The reason is simple: returning a mixed collection almost always costs more than the cards are worth, and we would rather that money stayed with you. So the risk is ours, not yours — you know what you will receive before you decide to post.
4. The guaranteed minimum
The minimum is calculated from the description you give us. We pay the higher of the guaranteed minimum and the assessment at published rates. The guarantee no longer applies if the collection we receive is materially different from the one described — significantly fewer cards, different sets, or condition significantly below what was stated — in which case we pay the assessment at published rates, itemised.
The fuller your description, the better the minimum we can guarantee.
5. Sending deadline
The guaranteed amount is valid for 7 days from our confirmation. The postmark date counts, not the arrival date.
After that the guarantee lapses. You lose nothing: we talk to you and quote again at the rates in force at that point.
6. Undeclared high-value cards
If we find a card assessed above 100.00€ that was not part of your description, we contact you before closing the purchase and itemise that card separately.
We do not want to buy something by accident that you did not know you had.
7. Selling in person
If you prefer, we assess the collection with you present. Different rules apply:
- Nothing is agreed until we both agree.
- We may decline all of it, or part of it.
- You keep everything we do not buy. There is no final sale and no guaranteed minimum, because you carry no risk.
8. What we cannot take
- Water-damaged, mouldy or otherwise contaminated material.
- Counterfeits and proxies.
We tell you this before you send, never after. Whatever arrives here is bought.
9. Your warranties
By selling us cards, you confirm that:
- you are 18 or over;
- the cards are yours and you are free to dispose of them;
- they are not encumbered or subject to any third-party claim.
10. Payment
We pay by SEPA bank transfer (give us your IBAN) or in store credit.
Cash only for in-person purchases and only below EUR 1,000: above that, the law requires a traceable payment method, and cash payments of EUR 3,000 or more are prohibited (article 63.º-E of the Lei Geral Tributária).
11. Documentation
We issue a declaração de venda (purchase declaration) for every purchase and give you a copy. To complete it we need your name, address and NIF (mandatory for residents in Portugal). If you live in another Member State, give us your country and an identification number.
12. Your data
If you talk to us on WhatsApp, that conversation passes through the infrastructure of Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, which acts as a processor and is not part of our systems. If you would rather not use WhatsApp, write to support@misstepgames.com.
From the conversation we keep what the purchase requires: your identification, the agreement on the amount, and payment details. Purchase records are kept for the legally required period. Your IBAN is deleted 90 days after payment — the bank statement is the durable proof. See our Privacy Policy.
13. Complaints
You can complain through the Electronic Complaints Book or refer the matter to CNIACC (https://www.cniacc.pt), as described in our Terms and Conditions.
